Disney’s ‘Star Wars’ Themed Lands to Open in 2019

Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, a new expansion land for the Walt Disney theme parks, will open next year.

The California based Disneyland expansion is set to open in the summer, while the Disney World expansion opens in Florida during the fall.

Set on the new planet of Batuu, Disney plans to create an immersive, personalized experience for anyone that goes to the themed-area.

Taking place during the new trilogy of films, the new land aims to create a unique narrative for guests as their actions on the rides and attractions will effect how the “denizens” (Disney cast members) of the planet perceive them. Walk into a shop, and the shop owner will greet the guest, or be wary of them, depending on their affiliations and other experiences. Stuck in the middle of a war between the Resistance and the First Order, guests will find themselves an important part of the story.

This kind of theming and immersion isn’t new to the Disney Parks. In May of 2017 Disney opened an Avatar themed expansion land in the Animal Kingdom park at Walt Disney World Resort. Called “Pandora: The World of Avatar:” the land uses similar technology like the upcoming Star Wars area to create an unique experience for each guest.

Disney also has plans to open a new Star Wars themed hotel and resort in Disney World that will continue the narrative and have an equally immersive theme.

Star Wars fans won’t have to wait long to journey to a galaxy far, far away.
