The war for the galaxy rages on this fall with EA and DICE’s Star Wars Battlefront 2.
When EA and DICE’s Star Wars Battlefront was released in Nov 2015, it was met with praise for its visuals and authenticity, but chastised for minimal content and bare-bones offline content.
EA showed off a new trailer and gameplay footage of the sci-fi shooter during EA Play at E3 saturday. EA promises three times more content than the first game will be available to fans and players when the game launches in November.
The first complaint DICE seems to be addressing is the lack of offline content in the first Battlefront.
Offering a full story campaign, offline skirmish modes, and split screen; EA seems poised to deliver.
The cinema quality campaign takes place between Star Wars: Return of the Jedi, and Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Starring a squad of Imperial commandos, DICE promises to bridge the gap between the two films.
On the multiplayer front, DICE showed off a deeper customization system and class-based multiplayer. Players can adjust weapons and abilities for their multiplayer avatar and make the experience their own.
As battles wage, characters gather points that can be cashed in to give them the ability to jump in a star fighter, or enter the battlefield as one of the many iconic heroes in the saga.
All eras of the famous sci-fi series will be represented in the multiplayer.
At one point in the footage of live gameplay four heroes from different eras were shown facing off. Rey from The Force Awakens squared off against Boba Fett of The Empire Strikes Back, while Han Solo dueled Darth Maul from The Phantom Menace.
The 40 player matches will be bolstered by free periodic content releases.
Not mentioning a season pass, unlike its predecessor, Battlefront 2 will offer all new maps, heroes, weapons and vehicles for all players for free.
It’s likely that there will be some paid downloadable content, but what that will be remains to be unclear.
The first set of heroes announced are Finn and Captain Phasma from The Force Awakens.
Fans can preorder now for access to an early Beta gameplay test this fall.
Star Wars Battlefront 2 will release November 17.
