E3 2018: ‘Sea of Solitude’ and Mental Health in Video Games

One of the most striking reveals at the EA Play 2018 conference was the game Sea of Solitude. As the newest EA Original (EA’s independent games initiative) it joins Fe from Zoink! Games and A Way Out from Hazelight Studios.

This new game from small developer Jo-Mei Games was shown off by it’s creative director Cornelia Geppert. In Sea of Solitude, players will control Kay, a young woman who that is suffering from the “loneliness of isolation.”

‘Battlefield V’ Unveiled, Release Date Announced

World War II was the bloodiest conflict in human history. Lasting from 1939 to 1945, the conflict saw over 30 nations and 100 million people involved in a globe spanning conflict the world had never seen before.

The popular culture depictions and reenactments of the Second World War typically focus on the larger battles like the Siege of Stalingrad, The Storming of Normandy, and the Battle of Midway.

Though these battles proved to be key to the Allies winning the war they often overshadow some other battles in parts of the world where people lived and died for just as noble a cause.

Dice and Electronic Arts hope to try to tell some of those stories in the newly unveiled war game, Battlefield V.

Frontier Developments finally has revealed some details on the upcoming park-building simulation, Jurassic World Evolution, and like Ian Malcolm once said: “Oooh ahhh… That’s how it always starts… but then there’s running… and uh screaming…”

Most Anticipated 2018 – ‘Code: Vein’

Easily my favorite genre of game in the modern era are the Sous-like games. Starting with the fantastic and soon to be remastered Dark Souls and spun off with fantastic takes like Salt & Sanctuary and Ni-Oh. The base formula is simple, you are dropped into a world that does not hold your hand and tasked with fighting enemies that can often kill you with relative ease.

The back and forth of fighting for your life with the constant threat of losing progression makes the player always feel like there is something on the line. That game play loop has become one of my favorite experiences in video games.
