New Study: Up to 42% of Esports Viewers Do Not Play the Games They Watch

A new study that was conducted by Newzoo shows that 42% of the viewers of esports don’t play the game or games they watch. Accordingly, the Newzoo study that was conducted in 10 countries shows that viewers can range from players of the game to viewers only.

Newzoo finds that esports can create a “lean-back consumption” that makes it possible for viewers and previous players to stay up-to-date with the competitive titles they enjoy without having to play the games themselves. In particular, the games that show this type of engagement are players that used to play Counter-Strike: Global Offensive and DOTA 2.

Is Newzoo on to something that esports can become just like traditional sports viewing? Check out the full study by clicking here.
