id Software’s Doom games are responsible for pioneering first-person shooters. They didn’t invent the concept, but delivered a fast paced, graphically amazing (at the time), and ultra-violent experience that led to countless imitators.
The series was revived in 2016 with a new entry, simply called DOOM. It brought back the stylized ultra-violence and lightning-quick action of the old games while still offering modern gameplay conveniences.
The sequel to that revival, Doom Eternal, was unveiled and teased during the Bethesda E3 conference.
The “Doomslayer” returns to kill demons and… Kill more demons in the next installment in the classic series.
Taking a page from Doom II, the new game looks to have the demon invasion ravage Earth itself, instead of the typical Martian setting. Fiery, hellish cityscapes dominated the trailer as hideous demonic monstrosities prowled the hellscape.
According to the developers, the game will feature new “more badass demons” and the player character will be more powerful.
No other details were given. More will be revealed at Quakecon, the annual id software fan event, in August.
