Marvel Studios latest entry into their cinematic universe has had a strong opening weekend.

Directed by James Gunn, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 rocketed to the top of the box office with over 145 million dollars in the US.

The second in the sci-fi franchise, Guardians Vol 2 follows the titular Guardians as they continue their misadventures around the galaxy. Staying true to the original, this journey is accompanied by the classic tunes that defined the first film.

The film is currently sitting at a 81% at rottentomatoes.com and is considered certified fresh.

The film is out in theaters now.
